Capt. Geo. Little's Windsor Chair - Lot #: 125

early 19th century, mixed woods with old dark polished patina, nicely shaped saddle seat and boldly turned legs and stretchers, 24.5 x 15.7 x 36" high, with seat height at 18". There is an attached typed label to the underside of this chair reading "The Little Windsor Chair. This chair, one of eight was owned by Captain George Little U.S.N., and used by him on the Frigate "Boston" in about the year 1800, and then taken by him to his (home) farm at Marshfield, Mass. His son, Edward Preble Little, my great-grandfather, inherited the old farm, living there until 1854. Sold farm and divided the furniture among his children. My grandmother received this one. It came to my father. 1892." George Little (1754-1809) was a United States Navy officer. He served in the Massachusetts State Navy during the American Revolutionary War and in the U.S. Navy during the Quasi-War with France.
Condition: Likely refinished in the 19th century, else Fine.
